The Vegan Cook’s Bible

The Vegan Cook's Bible

from Robert Rose Inc. As I mentioned in an earlier cookbook review post, in 2014 I have been making a concerted effort to eat more of a plant-based diet. At first the thought seemed quite daunting, but over time it has become much easier and just a way of life. So, when I was provided with a list of new titles from Robert Rose Inc., I was excited to see The Vegan Cook’s Bible by Pat Crocker on the list and couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. The Vegan Cook’s Bible is so much more than a cookbook! … Continue reading

Baking with Peanut Butter

We are HUGE fans of peanut butter in our house, so you can only guess that we do A LOT of baking with peanut butter! In fact, our favourite brand of Peanut Butter can only be purchased in the US so this past summer, hubby and I stocked up for the year! Can you guess how many large jars of peanut butter we bought? Need a recipe to try out that uses Peanut Butter to put this tip to the test? For those of you who enjoy baking with peanut butter as much as I do, here are some of … Continue reading

EASY Peach Crisp

Easy Peach Crisp

Earlier this week, I published my Simple Apple Crisp Recipe for you to try out. Peach crisp is another wonderfully easy dessert to make. All it takes is a bit of labour to peel the peaches and it can be thrown together in a matter of minutes after that. There is no trick to baking it, other than burning it (just keep your eye on your oven after 20 minutes have passed), there really is NOTHING that you can do wrong with this dish. So if you aren’t a baker and would like to try a dessert, this would be … Continue reading

Simple Apple Crisp

Apple Crisp

For me, Apple Crisp is such a simple, yet incredible dessert in the Fall. Wouldn’t you agree? The experience of picking the apples off of the tree, peeling and slicing the apples and mixing the crisp topping is so wholesome. There is nothing like the smell of freshly picked apples in the fall. Perhaps it is the memory of apple picking at my Grandparents’ apple orchard or the LOVE for fall with the crisp breeze and the sunny days. Perhaps Apple Crisp is a dessert that I remember fondly from my childhood. I honestly don’t know what it is, but … Continue reading

What is Galette? {Recipe}

Berry Galette

The fancy word for this dessert is “Galette”, but in my books, it is a cheater pie. It tastes like pie, it just doesn’t look like it! Remember, it’s just a fancy name for cheater pie!  So, you’re still asking yourself, what is Galette? Answer from Wikipedia: “Galette is a term used in French cuisine to designate various types of flat round or free form crusty cakes.” So does that answer your question? Perhaps not. As I mentioned above, I find Galette to be like a cheater pie because it has all of the exact same ingredients as a pie, … Continue reading

Blueberry Coffee Cake with Maple Glaze

Blueberry Coffee Cake

Last week, I shared a recipe for Sinful Strawberry Muffins and I might have mentioned how much I love fresh, Ontario strawberries. Well, I didn’t mention that fresh, WILD, Ontario blueberries (the tiny ones) are my all time favourite type of berry, did I? The last time I made this cake was back in 2007 for Super Bowl. I cannot believe that my daughter wasn’t even two at the time. I made notes on the recipe that we made it for my husband for Super Bowl. I love the fact that I have been baking cakes with my daughter since … Continue reading

Sinful Strawberry Muffins

Strawberry Muffins

I remember when I was in High School, my best friend and I would go strawberry picking together every June. It was our way of de-stressing during exams. Truth be told, I don’t recall what we did with all of the strawberries. Perhaps my Mom used them to bake her famous Strawberry Bread with Strawberry Butter and her delicious Strawberry Freezer Jam. I have continued on this tradition with my children by taking them every year to our local strawberry patch to pick strawberries. They love it so much, I think they would be happy to stay and pick strawberries … Continue reading
