Remembrance Day at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre

By Jennifer Schnare, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre Today, we recognize the contributions of Canadian war veterans. Thanks to all those who donated a flag and sent a message of gratitude to veterans like Peter at Operation Raise a Flag. On November 11, Canada Remembers. “I was a volunteer. I did what I had to do, and as old as I am, I’d do it again,” said Veteran Peter Bate, a WWII Marine commando, before our Remembrance Day ceremony. Peter’s thoughts on Operation Raise a Flag? “I think it’s beautiful,” he said, looking out over the thousands of flags raised this … Continue reading

Hardwood Floors vs Carpet

When my husband and I were looking for our first home, many of the houses that we looked at clearly had young children. We could tell this by the decor of the bedrooms, the toys and the messes. Knowing that we were eventually planning on having children, it was important to me that we had as little broadloom as possible in our house because I knew that having hardwood floors were easier to clean (and as an added bonus, they look good too). I knew that we didn’t have a lot of disposible income and if we did purchase a … Continue reading

Organizing Wish Lists for Christmas

Last night, I spent over an hour in our basement sorting through the large plastic bins where I store future gifts for our children. You see, my husband and I don’t enjoy doing anything last minute and that includes Christmas shopping. We tackle it as a year long mission, collecting things as we see them. The only problem with this tactic is that throughout the year, new toys come out that the children oogle at AND sometimes their wish list changes. This year, one of the hottest toys marketed towards girls (although to be honest, I wish it was promoted … Continue reading

Rubbermaid Filter Fresh Water Bottle

Our tap water has a very distinct taste. My daughter refuses to drink tap water. Instead, we fill up large glass water bottles at our local Reverse Osmosis water store and she drinks water from a water cooler. Recently we were sent a Rubbermaid FilterFresh Water Filtration Bottle to sample. It is a 20 oz plastic BPA FREE water bottle. The Filter removes chlorine and provides the equivalent of 300 bottles of water. I enjoy the water from this water bottle, but the most wonderful part is that so does my daughter. It is easy for her to drink out … Continue reading
