I haven’t made these delicious squares yet this year so I am unable to provide you with a photo, but let me tell you that they are absolutely sinful! If you love cherries with the combination of chocolate, you will not be disappointed!
Bottom Layer
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/3 sugar
1 cup flour
Mix the above using an electric mixer (I use my Kitchen Aid). Press this mixture into the bottom of a parchment paper lined square (9 inch) pan and bake for approximately 15 minutes at 350 degrees, until light golden in colour.
Topping:
1 can sweetened condensed milk (300 ml)
2 Tbsp butter
2 tsp vanilla
3/4 cup chopped candied cherries
2 oz chocolate squares (your choice of chocolate)
Combine condensed milk and butter and melt in a saucepan until bubbling. Once it begins to boil, stir constantly for another 3 minutes. Add vanilla and cherries and remove from heat, stirring to combine.
Pour over top of bottom and return to 350 degree oven for approximately 20 minutes, until bubbly and light golden in colour.
Melt chocolate squares and drizzle over top of pan.
Cut into squares.
Enjoy!
