Talking to our children about any negative topic or experience like death or tragedy is always a challenge. Our instinct as a parent is to protect our children from harm and sadness. What to Do When You Have a Congested Infant?

infant congestion

My first delivery turned into an unexpected C-Section. After 20 hours of intense labour and two and a half hours of pushing, with no success, it was recommended that I deliver my daughter via caesarean section. I was NOT happy with this outcome, but that is a topic for another blog post. I didn’t realize at the time that the outcome would be a beautiful, healthy, yet congested infant!   My daughter was a congested infant. And, I do believe that might have been the cause of her lack of sleep and irritability in the very beginning. We tried all … Continue reading

Powering Smiles This Holiday Season #PowerImagination

powering smiles

Children love to smile and parents love to see their children smile. Unfortunately, at this time of year, for some families, smiles are difficult to find. Every year, thousands of children and their families spend time in Canadian hospitals over the holidays. And while they may have difficulty finding their smiles, I do believe that there is always a smile hiding in there, and we have to find creative ways to bring that out during particularly difficult times. Powering smiles is something that Duracell is passionate about… especially this time of year! For children who are sick, we have to … Continue reading

Halloween Safety

Halloween Safety

Teaching children about Halloween Safety including tips like never trick-or-treat alone (get your free safety tip printable here) is extremely important. Children need to understand that when it is dark outside, there are additional safety hazards that present themselves. Many people light up their Jack-O-Lanterns with real candles. This has never sat right with me! When I was a Kindergarten teacher, I came up with the idea to light up our pumpkins with a battery-powered flashlight instead of a candle.
