Give Your Child a @ScholasticCDA Book This Holiday Season!

Scholastic is sure to have a book for every child on your list this year! I know that they have so many wonderful Christmas books available this year, I just don’t know which ones to choose to give to my children! I started a family tradition when my daughter was born to give the kids a gift on Christmas Eve. It helps to take the edge off and it makes Christmas Eve full of tradition for our family. The gifts always include a book that we read to them at bedtime. I love snuggling up with my children and reading … Continue reading

Book Review: The Good Woman by Jane Porter

From the moment I received The Good Woman from Pearson Publishing and read the back cover, I was intrigued. The quintessential oldest child of a large Irish Catholic family, Meg Brennan is responsible, respectable and dependable. Very much the “good woman” she is hard-working, dedicated to her family, and a faithful wife. Taxiing her kids to and from activities, cooking meals and working a full time job, Meg always does what is expected. What more could a forty-ish woman with a successful husband, talented children, and a fulfilling career in the wine industry want out of life? Intimacy and excitement … Continue reading

Some Good @ScholasticCDA Reads

I absolutely LOVE reading childrens’ books! Getting lost in the story and illustrations of a good childrens’ book, if even for a few minutes, is something that I truly enjoy. Of course, snuggling up with my children and reading a book with them is even better. This is something that we should all try to do once a day with our kids. Reading books to our children, when they are young (and even not so young) is so important to helping to establish an interest in books, literacy skills as well as a good, strong bond with with our children. … Continue reading

Todd Parr Books {GUEST POST}

I firmly believe that reading to children is one of the most important things we can do for their development, so when my second son was born last July I was anxious to start reading to him as early as possible. I first picked up Todd Parr’s The Grandma Book about six months ago when my Mom was coming for a visit. I thought it would be a cute story for her to read to my then six-month-old. I had been reading other books to him up until that time but none seemed to hold his interest like this one … Continue reading

Some Fun Reads from @ScholasticCDA

We love Scholastic in our house! We order Scholastic books through our local school just about every month! Do you remember doing this as a child? I can still remember the excitement that I felt when the Scholastic order would come in and there was a book waiting for me!Recently, we received two wonderful stories from Scholastic! As usual, as soon as they arrived, the kids raced to the couch to secure their favourite place to sit when they listen to a story. First, we read Some Dads by Nick Bland: This was the perfect book to share with our … Continue reading
