Potential Benefits of Oil Pulling #ONatural

Recently, I saw a post on Facebook that asked the question Have you tried oil pulling? Would you give it a go? I have seen more and more information online about Oil Pulling and I have always been intrigued. I actually gave it a try once last year, but within seconds of the oil being in my mouth, I had to spit it out as the texture drove me crazy.

However, I LOVE Orange Naturals and when I saw them post about it, it got me thinking that I really should commit to giving it an honest try. Just because I couldn’t handle it last year doesn’t mean that I can’t handle it now or that I won’t be able to get used to the texture that drove me crazy, right?
Benefits of Oil Pulling
There are so many suggested potential benefits of Oil Pulling as shared on the Orange Naturals blog such as:

  • Headache relief
  • Hormone balancing
  • Reduction of eczema flare ups
  • Relief of sinus congestion
  • Reduction in allergy symptoms
  • Sleep aid
  • Hangover relief

With Oil Pulling helping overall oral health, many sources also suggest that it aids in overall cardiovascular health AND that it might help me with my overly sensitive gums.

So, with all of these benefits, I just HAVE to give it an honest try, don’t you think?

Morning ONE:
On the first morning, I basically talked myself into committing to a minimum of 5 minutes. Would you believe that after I got the oil melted in my mouth to a smooth consistency, I was actually able to keep it in for 10 minutes? You see I decided to use Coconut Oil for its other added benefits, but it is a solid state when at room temperature and has a slightly gritty texture when you first put it in your mouth. This is what I had trouble with initially, but after about 10 seconds, the oil melts and is completely smooth. I also have finally found a Coconut Oil that has such a lovely light coconut taste which I thoroughly enjoy.

Morning TWO:
On day two, I set the same goal of 10 minutes and I was actually able to keep it going for about 12 minutes before I had to spit it out. What I was most surprised about day two was that after oil pulling, I didn’t have the urge to drink coffee first thing in the morning. I did the Oil Pulling, spat it out and rinsed with warm salt water and I was good until the kids went to school. If you know me well, you would be as shocked as I was! The funny part was that I actually didn’t get a coffee Mommy’s happy juice until about 9:30 and the only reason why I did was because I started to get a headache.

I plan on trying this new routine for a week to see how I feel and I will report back to you then!

Have never heard of this. Interesting read. I do have a large jar of organic coconut oil, so I might give it a try. Glad to hear that you spit it out, because for a minute I thought you had to swallow it. Not sure I could do that. lol. Thanks for sharing.

Very interesting, I would have to use something other than coconut oil though or I wouldn’t have it in for even a minute.

I don’t mind oil pulling, it only makes me mad because it seems like as soon as the oil gets into my mouth the phone starts ringing..grrr

I don’t think this is anything that I’d like to participate in thank you. How long are you supposed to keep it in your mouth then? I know as a child we had to take cod liver oil – disgusting I was almost sick every time. Strangely enough my twin sister didn’t mind it in the least.
