I have some very fond memories of my Grandparents! Sadly, I never got to meet my maternal Grandfather, but my maternal Grandmother had the most beautiful jewellery and super fun black old style, rotary phone that we loved to use.
I spent a lot more time with my paternal Grandparents. They lived on an Apple Orchard that was like heaven to a little kid as we climbed up in the low apple trees, played hide and seek and ran free on their huge property.
I remember funny things about my Grandmother! Her skim milk always tasted sour, her baking all had a hint of that extra baking soda taste and she made me put mud on a bee sting the one time I slept over at her house. But, I also remember wonderful things like her teaching me how to play card games and she would sit and scratch my back for what seemed like hours. I didn’t get to know my paternal Grandfather anywhere near as well as I would have liked to as he left us when I was 5. However, even at that young age, he made a large impact on my life. I remember that his laugh and smile lit up a room and I remember what it felt like to sit on his lap in his special chair in my grandparents’ family room.
