BOOK REVIEW: MagicKeepers: The Chalice of Immortality by Erica Kirov

Magickeepers: The Chalice of Immortality Written by Erica Kirov

This book is the third and concluding book in a series about Nick Rostov, a boy who, on his thirteenth birthday, discovered his destiny as a Magickeeper.

The book begins under the cover of night in the early 1920s, with Harry Houdini and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle holding a meeting with friends and a fortune teller and spiritualist, Madame B. They learn of a goblet that may enter Sir Arthur’s life; one that should be protected at all costs but at the same time, greatly feared.

From here we jump to present day Las Vegas where Nick lives with his father and other extended family members who are from a long line of Magickeepers. Nick’s mother died years earlier and after seeing her one evening in a crystal ball, Nick is determined to find out more about her. Thus begins a great adventure with wizards, famous historical figures including Shakespeare, and tests of human courage and restraint. Nick ultimately learns the value of staying true to himself and his knowledge of good and evil.

Not having read the first two books in the series there were some pieces of information about Nick and his family that were a little foggy but this did not interfere with the enjoyment of the book. It would be a great read for a child who likes adventure and magic. I would put the age of the reader as between grade 4 and 6 (age 10-14); however, interest wise it could reach those older than that with no issues. It’s not a long book but keeps the reader engaged. Even as an adult it makes me curious about the first two books in the series and others (including 18 adult novels) that Erica Kirov has written.
