A Day in the Life of a Blind Canadian

This post brought to you by Accessible Media Inc.. All opinions are 100% mine.

I want to share with you what I find a very inspirational YouTube video of a typical day in the life of Jeff Berwick, a man who lost his sight when he was 13 years old. He has been without sight for the majority of his life and he has found incredible ways to adapt his life accordingly! He has a family and enjoys every day activities including tv shows with help from Accessible Media who has made it much more enjoyable and inclusive for him!

Please watch this video:

Life without sight must be very challenging at times. There are Leader Dogs for the Blind that definitely help people who are blind get from place A to B, but there are many other parts to every day life that are a challenge.

I think that it is amazing that there are over 600 volunteers across Canada that read newspaper and magazine articles for Voice to Print! It is also great that there is The Secondary Audio Program (SAP) which is an audio setting on your TV that has described television programming for blind and low vision people.

Eye sight is definitely that most of us take for granted, I am more than aware of that! When I was younger, once a month I would travel to Sick Kids Hospital for special eye appointments. They patched  my good eye in order to force my bad eye to do all of the work. Unfortunately, this did not fix the problem and therefore, I am quite challeneged with sight in my one eye. When I get sand in my good eye etc. I can appreciate the difficulty that low vision people must face every day of their lives.

I was so happy to learn that Accessible Media exists!

I enjoyed this post about being blind and/or vision impaired. I heard about an exercise for high schoolers where they had to spend a day with Vaseline rubbed on glasses to see just how challenging it was for vision impaired people to navigate through a normal day. Helped me appreciate the challenges!
