Yes, it is SPRING! BUT, just because the season has arrived doesn’t mean that we are getting the full amount of sunshine as our bodies require. Vitamin D is traditionally called the “sunshine vitamin”. In fact, according to the Orange Naturals blog, a large proportion of Canadians are actually deficient in vitamin D.
Why are so many Canadians deficient in vitamin D?
There is a fine balance between too much and not enough sun, because the sun is our most natural source of exposing ourselves to vitamin D, but too much sun can also have harmful effects on our bodies.
The amount of exposure also depends on the season, the weather and more!
Vitamin D is known to perform many functions in our bodies including:
- Building strong bones
- Increasing Muscle Mass and Strength
- Regulating the Immune System
- Heart health
Let’s talk about how we can ensure we are giving our bodies enough vitamin D for optimal health.
Vitamin D can be found in some food sources like oily fish and eggs.
Exposing your skin to the sun for even 10-15 minutes per day can help your body to produce vitamin D.
Taking a vitamin D supplement can ensure that we are giving our bodies the recommended amount of vitamin D year round.
Orange Naturals has many forms of vitamin D for you to consider when thinking about vitamin D supplementation.
At the end of the day, the season of spring brings better weather and more opportunities to enjoy warmer, sunnier weather.

I think one of the main problems here is that we’re in the northern hemisphere. I love the sun and do try and get as much as I can, which doesn’t have to be at midday ;-). One of my daughters lives in Sydney, Australia where due to a higher rate of skin cancer people literally smoother themselves in sunscreen – the result, so I read, is that despite there being so much sunshine there, a large number of the population have a vitamin D deficiency.
I’m pretty sure I’m lacking in vitamin D….tis the season!
I take vitamin D daily , keeps the colds at bay , really helps thanks for sharing 🙂

I know I need more vitamin D, but when I remember I take my vitamin..oops..lol
Wow! I did not know that Vitamin D helped support strong bones. My son just broke his arm. I should definitely be adding drops to his diet. I did when he was a baby. Don’t know why I stopped!

I know that I am not getting enough, I need to get back on track with taking my calcium and vitamin D. I need to get my kids taking vitamin D again too, definitely important up here in north in winter and to help our immune systems!
I remember my mom giving me cod liver oil capsules when I was a little girl. Now I try to take Vitamin D tablets, especially in the winter.
Summer is over as we go into the colder months it’ll get harder to get vitamin D naturally so I take multi vitamins to help my body get what it needs
