Here are the stats to show my progress in my “Get Healthy Challenge”:
Start Weight: 190 pounds | Starting BMI: 28.9 |
---|---|
End of Week 1: 185 pounds | End of Week 1 BMI: 28.1 |
End of Week 4: 179 pounds | End of Week 4 BMI: 27.2 |
End of Week 8: 175 pounds | End of Week 8 BMI: 26.6 |
End of Week 11: 175 pounds | End of Week 11 BMI: 26.6 |
My goal is to reach a normal BMI which would be 24.9 (the top of what is considered a “normal” BMI) at 164 pounds and from there, I plan to reassess.
After gaining two pounds on my vacation, I am so excited to announce that this week, I lost those two pounds! Phew – good riddance and now, let us move forward.
Heart and Stroke “My Healthy Weight Action Plan” Update:
This week, I spent some time surfing through the FREE online Heart and Stroke Foundation My Healthy Weight Action Plan Tool in the Resource section. I focussed on the recipes and meal plan section. The recipes are broken down into different categories: breakfast, soups and dinners (fish, meat and poultry). I hope that over time a larger variety of recipes will be featured.
I love the meal plan ideas as they cover a variety of daily calorie intakes and different kinds of diets (higher carb and higher protein). The daily meal plan ideas provide you with a great guide as to how much food you should be consuming based on your caloric intake. It also gives you ideas for healthy meal ideas.
Here is the story about a salad that I wanted to share with you from my vacation last week.
I tried to order healthy salads for my lunches and dinners while I was on vacation so that I could ensure to keep up my vegetable intake and to stay clear from the other options on restaurant menus that are nowhere near as healthy for me. I was floored at one restaurant that they had two salads on their menu that were topped with fries! Yes, you read that right. The salad that was filled with healthy greens and a grilled chicken breast was also topped with fries! Yikes. I ordered that salad because it was my healthiest option, but I asked for them to omit the fries. Ok, I’m not perfect, my hubby ordered an appetizer plate that had some fried food on it, I may have sampled a few items from that plate, but at least I held back on the fries on my salad, right?!
This Week’s Challenges:
- As much as I have fully embraced this new way of living, I am still having quite the challenge with suppressing my cravings.
This Week’s Smiles:
- I drank my water every day. I discovered a new delicious water from my friend over at Just Us Girls
- I had two amazing workouts: one at home with my son doing Zumba and Dance Central on the Xbox Kinnect and the other was going out line dancing with some girls (what a blast and such great exercise!).

Awesome job! That is one of my biggest fears as we get ready to go away. That all of our hard work over the last month will be negated in a few days of fun in the sun. We are going on a cruise so all food is free, and I’m sure less than healthy… I guess we’ll just have to do our best to resist.
Our trainer tells us that those cravings are caused by our insulin levels bouncing up and down, which in turn is caused by eating carbs. Lower your carb intake and the cravings will decrease. Remember I had the same problem? I’ve lowered my carb intake and it’s helping a LOT! Keep up the good work!
I love it!!!!
I’ll have extra fries with that salad. And maybe some gravy. In fact, make it poutine, hold the lettuce. Much better!
I’m kidding. But I hate when restaurants do that to salads. Just give me a salad and don’t tempt me with the good stuff.
Also, I agree about the carb thing. I love them and eat them, but when I lower my carb intake (and skip anything white) my cravings are so much better. Give me white toast and I lose all control.
YAY! So great. Line dancing was AMAZING exercise!!! I am still sore from it, in a good way!!! We need to go regularly, haha. I wonder if there’s anything closer to us we could try?
Let’s get healty together-week 12- I think you did wonderfully well on your holiday. My son-in -law lost nearly 100 pounds since last spring. His attitude towards healthy eating made me see that I could lose if I changed my attitude towards food and disciplined myself to eat more fruit and vegetables, especially the latter. I had a healty meal of fish, potato, cabbage, carrots and peas yesterday and it was so good! I hope you are keeping up the good work as I try to do the same.Elva Roberts
