(closed) BOOK REVIEW and GIVEAWAY: Saving Women’s Hearts by Martha Gulati and Sherry Torkos

Winner was randomly selected using RandomNumber.org! Congratulations, Jim #26!

The book Saving Women’s Hearts is written by two highly qualified individuals: Martha Gulati–a cardiologist, specializing in cardiac disease prevention in women and Sherry Torkos–a pharmacist with training in both conventional and complementary medicine.

The book is so detailed! It walks you through the scientific details of the heart along with all of the many risk factors the are placed on womens’ hearts. It then goes on to talk about different screening and tests that are commonly used to screen for heart disease.

I like Chapter 5 about Heart Medications that are used to treat and manage heart disease. Each drug is broken down into “the good, the bad, the ugly and the noteworthy”. It provides quite a bit of information about each type of drug.

Chapter 6 is all about Treatments for the various types of Heart conditions. Treatments discussed are lifestyle changes, medications, devices and treatment goals. Everything is broken down in such an organized manner, you are sure to find exactly the information you are looking for according to the specific condition that you are seeking more information on.

Chapter 7 is called “Nature’s Pharmacy”. Various supplement options are discussed in this chapter in quite detail including common supplements as well as ones that I had never heard of before!

According to Chapter 8 (all about food), I am doing at least one thing right–something that my family has just started–we are eating Chia seeds! They are very good for you! Have you tried them? AND, did you know that cinnamon is really good for you as well?

Overall, I found this book educated me all about the heart, heart disease and how to care for my heart! It talked about what is good for my heart, what is bad for my heart and all about prevention. If you are in a high risk category for heart disease or if you are wanting to learn more about caring for your body and your heart health, I do recommend this book!
