I’ve had many conversations with Mom friends of mine about how we often get lost in motherhood. Not only that, but often lost in life in general, for a while after having children. Sometimes, this is a short while and for some of us, it can happen for so long that we start to forget who we really are. What does this have to do with finding a proper fitting bra? Please continue reading, it will come clearer as I explain.
For me, I got lost for a good 10 years after having children. Please know that I LOVE being a Mom. I also loved being a stay at home Mom, but my priorities shifted so much during those first few years that I forgot about me. In fact, one day, I looked in the mirror and wasn’t sure who I was anymore. I take full responsibility for this fact and now I am taking full ownership to find myself again.
Taking ownership of my life and myself means that I am finding myself on a journey.
It means I am putting a priority on myself.
AND it means that I must find COURAGE!
I’ve heard so many times, if we don’t prioritize ourselves, we cannot care for the others in our life to the best of our ability. This, I find to be very true.
So what does this mean?
For me, it means making a point of doing something for myself every single day. This might be reading a book, singing at the top of my lungs, going for a walk, or even participating in activities that allow me to focus on ME. It also means finding courage to step out of my comfort zone and to push my limits, to question my norms and to give myself the freedom to take this journey, wherever it may lead.
This past weekend, I FINALLY (after more years than I’m willing to admit) got properly sized for a comfortable and supportive bra. This was an experience that I could write an entire blog post about! I was nervous and felt out of my comfort zone. But, it was well worth the exercise! I was SHOCKED when I learned my proper size. Things had changed! This finally meant I would have a proper fitting bra.

This video features Karen Dorland, Fashion Consultant at Image Connections sharing why it is so important to have a proper fitted bra as well as a few tips:
Now, I’m not going to lie, I will be returning to the store to see my other options as well, because the underwire was hurting me (which can’t be a good sign), but I WILL get it right and I cannot wait! It could also be because I bruised myself trying on so many bras – yes, I am THAT sensitive!
AND once I’ve invested all of this time, energy and money into new bras, I will definitely learn how to properly take care of my new bras so that they last as long as they can, because let’s face it – good bras are an investment! AND, more importantly so am I!
Awesome!! There is nothing better than a properly fit bra. Sometimes if they are hurting you might be doing it up too tight. Definitely go back!! For me the best fitted bras are the ones that don’t need extra care attention.
Thank you for your comments, Sarah! I am going back on Friday 🙂
What do you mean extra care attention? Regular wash/hang to dry?
Great post. Hits you in the funnies and the heart at the same time.
Awwww your words make me so happy – thank you so much Helen for reading and commenting 🙂
