I like to be prepared. I am a planner. One thing that I have learned, ever since I became pregnant with my first child was that no matter how planned or prepared you are, there will always be surprises and unexpected moments that occur.
One of the surprises that I had when I was pregnant with my son (my second child) was the pressure on my bladder that I had never experienced before, at least not to that extreme. There were some steps that I would take and I had to squeeze my insides with everything I had in order to attempt to not have any light bladder leakage (LBL). And sometimes, an unexpected cough, sneeze or move would happen and I wouldn’t be able to squeeze hard enough and there would be a surprise.
Have you ever experienced this? Do you know that feeling that I’m talking about?
If I were to pass along some advice to pregnant woman, it would be to always be prepared for these unexpected leaks. Just because you are pregnant and won’t have your period doesn’t mean that other unexpected leaks may not occur.
One way that you can be prepared is to carry some Poise Thin-Shape Pads with you. This way, when you have that unexpected cough, giggle, sneeze or movement that results in LBL, you are prepared for the occasion.
Life is full of surprises, but some of them, we can plan ahead so that we aren’t fully caught off guard.
If you experienced or are experiencing light bladder leakage, you are definitely NOT alone!
1 in 3 women experience LBL and over 50% use feminine care products (aka: period pads) to manage their LBL. There is a different alternative out there that offer superior absorption and more effective odour neutralization benefits.
Incontinence experienced during pregnancy is usually stress incontinence; which is the involuntary loss of urine caused by increased pressure on the bladder.

Sometime when I cough I leek a little.
It happens to so many of us!
I find it tends to happen when I have a really loud sneeze or laugh way too hard
Laughs, sneezes, coughs….yup!
I can definitely relate to this when I was pregrant and now more and more as I am getting older. I am really bad when I sneeze,
Florence C
YES! The dreaded sneeze!
I know my sister deals a lot with this issue as she is getting older, will have to tell her about the poise pads. It is great that they are coming out with better products to deal with this issue and that it is being discussed more. I have an ostomy because I lost my bladder due to a birth defect so not something I will have to deal with.
Thank you for sharing with your sister. I’m sorry to hear that you lost your bladder 🙁
After having two kids and a hysterectomy it gets a lot worse, especially when you sneeze or cough!!
Oh yes! The dreaded sneezes and coughs – squeeze tight 😉
A mother of two… so yup, I can definitely relate! It’s just not the same down there after having babies!!!
Not yet, but my sister does so … maybe yet another thing to look forward to.
You never truly get your body back – but it’s still worth it!
Happens sometimes when I laugh really hard.
ummm yes … i think i was afraid to laugh or sneeze for 9 months! lol
It can sometimes happen when I sneeze or laugh too hard.
Thankfully I don’t have this problem yet but no doubt I will in the not too distant future.
I have some friends who deal with this LBL but I have never had any issues myself.
I do, it usually happens when I sneeze.
Sure can! But would prefer not to elaborate 😉
I don’t remember much of a problem when I was pregnant, but I have it now.
I am on diuretic and it is a whole new problem
I sometimes get leakage when I do high impact aerobics.
sometimes I almost don’t make it to the bathroom without actually piddling a little and no warning. Geesh if I a least knew I had to go I would have a fighting chance, but it just hits me
After having four children, I can definitely relate to this post! Especially when coughing hard and sneezing.
I almost don’t make it to the bathroom without actually wetting myself a little and with no warning, living with MS my bladder is not as strong as it use to be
I have to be careful when I sneeze
Sometimes when I have a really bad cold and it settles in my chest, I get coughing fits. They suck.
AFTER CHILDBIRTH I CAN SO RELATE
I have to be careful when i sneeze sometimes
near the end of my pregnancy i would wear a liner all the time just in case
Since I had my son (sixteen years ago) it happens when i laugh to hard and sometimes when I sneese
I have not yet but I am sure my time is coming!! 🙁
I do suffer from LBL and have for over 10 years now! When I laugh or sneeze or wait too long to go to the bathroom, I’m in trouble!
When I was pregnant with my youngest son he would lay on my bladder at night and I was up and down to the bathroom all night.
my sister does
I did when I was pregnant. Lbl runs in my family. My mom had 2 surgeries trying to fix her bladder becuase of it
I agree- every pregnancy is different and comes with a variety of surprises!
I can relate, oh the joys of pregnancy! 🙂
I havee to go it seems every half hour……
I did not sleep the last 2 months of my pregnancy because of the pressure on my bladder. Thankfully no major accidents!
I have to be sure to not drink much before going on a trip.Sometimes it hard to hold it.
The laughing thing..ugh.
Not yet, and I hope not to in the future either but at least I am informed now
coughing and sneezing while pregnant was tourture lol
coughing and sneezing get me, I have had bladder leakage for about 20 years do to a back injury and nerve damage, you learn to watch every sudden movement and have to wear protection 24/7, this hit me at the age of 30 so its been a long while but you learn to live with it and am always on the lookout for a bathroom
I can definitely relate, I hate to go places, it isn’t always light. cough, sneeze laugh, oops… I am so afraid that when I am out I will have an embarrassing leak, even though protected. I have had medication and it only helps a little. It doesn’t even matter if I have just used the bathroom, if i cough, I pee then I have to run… I am glad I am not alone
I had issues when I was pregnant, but not really since then. Good to know about the Poise products.
That happens when I laughs too much sometimes 😉
I notice it a little since I am getting older!
Thankfully I haven’t experienced LBL and hopefully it stays that way!
I remember this when I was pregnant. All my children were large babies and that last few weeks I did not want to be away from a bathroom long.
Ugh!! I hate LBL – I have experienced it, and even though it’s slight, it’s frustrating! I have used Poise liners in the past, and it was much better than a period pad!
I haven’t experienced LBL but as I age I worry about it since my mom had it only when she exerted herself, don’t want it either
I have occasional lbl. But I have been lucky enough to not require panty liners
Sneezing is the worstt
I sometimes get leakage when I sneeze!
My wife had experienced LBL when she was pregnant and afterwards. She use to be really be embarrassed by it. She use to require liners, but she doesn’t anymore.
I can’t believe I’m admitting this but when I was pregnant with my first baby, one night my husband and I were laying in bed watching TV and my husband made a joke that made me burst out laughing. Well, my laughter wasn’t the only thing that burst out…I peed all over the bed!
After having 4 kids,I had during pregnancy,now.
different once you have kids, but got to do those keegel exercises
yes, during pregnacy and very occasionally now, mostly if a sneeze or hard laughing!
I didn’t have LBL after my first child, but I did for a little while after my second (and while I was pregnant the second time around too).
After having my 3rd child and several abdominal surgeries, I’ve had trouble with LBL.
I didn’t have any LBL when I was pregnant, but now that I’m older I do find that sometimes I do when I sneeze or cough.
I find as I get older LBL is becoming more of an issue. having a product to help us is major
I have not had issues with bladder leakage but my mom has had a lot ever since she had a hysterectomy many years ago. She has had corrective surgery which has helped but still when she laughs sometimes…
Having a real good laughing fit can bring on unwanted fluids.
I still have leaks when exercising sometimes, since my daughter was born.
I definitely experienced this while pregnant. It’s the worst. Also, I feel like I have to go more often anyay since having two kids 🙂
The only time I get leakage is when I get a really bad cough from a cold or flu.
I experienced giggle incontinence as a child but luckily outgrew it. After 5 kids I am a kegel master and haven’t had LBL issues but will continue to do them and hope for the best!
i experience every so often when i laugh a lot
Yes I can relate. I always cross my legs before I sneeze..
If I laugh too hard, it will happen!
I do know a couple of ladies with this problem, but no problems personally.
I do know a couple of ladies with this problem, but no problems personally.
I work with some patients with this problem, but it has not affected my family personally yet.
I personally don’t have this problem and to my knowledge no one I know does.
I just find that as I am getting older, my bladder is just not the same.
yes if i cough or sneeze i can pee a little .. the joys of having children
I can! It happens every time I sneeze now that I’m older.
Yes, we have this problem here
I’ve never experienced this after having my baby but I’ve researched it and have contacts to help out with it if it does happen.

I certainly had my fair share of “bad” surprises when I was pregnant with my daughter, especially when I laughed
Yes I know the feeling! A heavy sneeze, cough or even a belly ripping laugh can set me off.
Oh yes I can relate. I have had 2 kids!
I’ve had 5 children, and over 40. I laugh, sneeze, cough.. just a bit to hard… sometimes I don’t need to do it hard, if I have to already go… then it’s a givin’ we’re leakin! ugh
I can so relate! I’ve only had one child and it all fell apart by the time I was 28. I was so embarrassed when I discovered my issue. I was showing the neighborhood kids how to cross over hands while skipping rope. Need I say more?? Now I don’t go anywhere without my Poise

I can relate I have cervical cancer and need to use poise daily great article
I’m scared of every sneeze !
Ever since I had my daughter (almost 10 years ago!) I do experience some minor leakage sometimes when sneezing, coughing, laughing…(Sarai)
I remember going constantly to the bathroom during my last two months of Pregnancy. I used to joke that I should make my bed in the bathtub so I wouldn’t have so far to go–and wishing it was that easy.
If I laugh too hard, I have to be worried about minor leakage *blush*
i had a moment after i was recovering from delivering my 1st son! @reinventyourday

I’ve never been pregnant, but have experienced LBL. I’m nervous for it to get worse once I do have children.
It was quite the unsuspended surprise during a crazy sneezing fit.
I have had 5 kids and now jumping on the trampoline is not a good idea any more.
Sometimes sneezing!
Sometimes sneezing!
I have had 2 children by C-section and haven’t had a leakage problem thus far….however my friend had 4 children naturally and has had to stop running and is very careful when she laughs!!!

Good to know..something to watch out for
Good to know that this is common.
Good to know that this is common.
Yes, I can definitely relate.
we will all be able to relate, eventually, so it’s good to be informed about the topic!
I experienced it while pregnant
My girlfriend who was recently pregnant is experiencing some leakage when she sneezes or laughs. We joke about it!
Yep, I can relate
Yes this was a common occurance when I was pregnant with both my kids, especially when I had to cough. Just add it to the list of awful things us women go through when we’re expecting!
I can relate….never going on a trampoline again. 😛
My sister has this problem, I feel so bad for her, I wish more could be done.
Since I was pregnant with triplets, my bladder moved to the other side of my body so it was very uncomfortable, however, I never had incontinence issues. I know that it’s very likely with age and I’ll deal with it when/if it happens. Great that people can talk about it opening nowadays.
Besos, Sarah

I experienced bladder issues when I was pregnant.
Yes unfortunately I can relate especially if I run or sneeze…wouldn’t dream of attempting to skip rope with grandkids now
This is a problem that I could relate to because it’s a very uncomfortable feeling like having a full bladder that feels like something very heavy is sitting on it.I found it hard to control if I sneezed or coughed too hard.Thank heavens for products like poise.
I’ve been really lucky in that I haven’t experienced any bladder leakage when not pregnant… but I do have one miserable story to relate from my second pregnancy! I am cursed with miserable morning sickness, all 3 of my pregnancies have been this way. At one point when I was pregnant with my daughter, I remember kneeling in front of the toilet, violently throwing up… when my bladder just let go and I peed myself at the same time. It was so, so humiliating. It’s funny looking back on it, but at the time I was just miserable.
I have a mild problem with this since having kids. When I sneeze I often leak a little or if I really have to go and I tough water — I hate that one!!
omg i was quite embarrassed when it happened to me when i would sneeze or laugh really hard. i found out months later that it does happen to other people as well.
It sure does – you’re definitely not alone!
I haven’t really had an LBL issue yet but I’m sure it’s coming.

I have had 5 children, so yes I can relate. Coughing is not good, and neither is sneezing. I wear liners daily just in case lol

I’ve been on the lookout for a waterproof mattress cover. The one for a double bed is sold at at both Walmarts near us. I’ve had a close call with some morning sneezes. My best friend says It’s only a matter of time.
Yes, I can relate to some things.
I have had two children and I have not experienced this.
You are very lucky!
Yes, I can relate to some of them after I gave birth to my second kids but it just occurred sometimes and not too serious
yes i can relate, i still have issues
Yeah i can relate to a few things
I can relate!
Sneezing is scary
I felt those moments a few times in my life – it’s embarassing!
I can totally relate..I was always scared to laugh or sneeze
Fortunately, I haven’t experienced this. Poise would definitely be necessary if I did!
I am fortunate to have never experienced this. Pregnancy was bad enough already!
I’m happy to say that I can’t relate to this though I sympathize for those who can!
Can’t relate but thank you for sharing your story & reading others
I also had this post pregnancy problem but I believe it helped by laying on the bed and doing leg raises (both at the same time together) to help strengthen the required muscles to prevent this problem.
Sneezing during pregnancy is problematic for sure!
Laughing was an issue for me when I was pregnant, along with sneezing, coughing and running
Unfortunately it doesn’t always end when your pregnancy is finished. 🙁
I think if this has not happened to you yet, it will. Happens to everyone!
Try menopause. My body has changed. My bladder is smaller, urgency, and oh those sneezes!!
(Debbie W)
I still have that issue, and my daughter is almost 5!!
Yes after I had babies
Yes, I can.
unfortunately I also had the unexpected problem as well :/

My mother has this issue and has discussed medical options. I notice more urgency as I get older…
via Rhonda W G.
Totally relate & I still experience it, even though my daughters are older now.
Since having my 2nd child, its something that happens, I always carry a thin liner for protection 😉
yes after i had kids (:
lol I sneeze very carefully
I’ve had to wear liners after my kids just to be on the safe side.
Oh, yes it is an ongoing problem.
Oh, yes it is an ongoing problem.
I can relate, wish I had control 100% of the time. That wont happen.
I can relate! I learned the hard way about trampolines!

Uh. Yeah. I can relate….
My mom said she had problems while pregnant. She also said it was worth it because the good outweighed it all.

There are those days liners are used but not that often, but glad to keep some on hand
Since having my kids, I definitely need to ensure an empty bladder if I am going to run!
Unfortunately, I can relate..UGH!
no more avoiding trampolines!
It’s good to see that people are starting to talk about this more
Yeah. I can relate….
no i cant really relate to any of it
I can relate to this for sure! It happens and it’s nothing to be embarrassed about
Fortunately I do not suffer from LBL but this is pregnancy #4 so we shall see how I hold up!!
I think this is a topic that certainly needs to be talked about as it affects so many women. I feel pretty lucky as I had 7 children am nearly 65 and so far this hasn’t been a problem but I’m pretty sure it will be as I get older.
