Towards the end of August, my body was really starting to feel dragged down. I wasn’t eating properly nor was I sleeping well and I know that a part of that was how I was choosing to eat. We always have a choice in what we eat.
I have always struggled with my blood sugar levels. My Mom still tells stories about how grumpy I was after school as a child. She would literally meet me at our side door with a cracker to shove in my mouth.
As an adult, I am much more aware of my blood sugar levels, but sometimes I still have a hard time controlling my highs and lows. I get headaches and VERY irritable if I don’t eat regularly throughout the day.
SO, once I started to feel dragged down, I knew that I was in need of a change, a new routine.
I bought some Juice Plus Complete, a whole-food-based beverage mix that provides balanced nutrition in every scoop. I started a new daily routine by having a big, tall glass of water, followed by a coffee (I can’t give that up just yet) and when I am awake enough to enjoy it, I make a smoothie. AND, later on in the afternoon, when I almost always find myself crashing, I often have another smoothie to pick me up and sustain me until dinner time. My afternoon smoothie is often made with my other favourite drink mix from Orange Naturals to change up what I’m putting into my body.
I usually add a mix of frozen berries and cherries, some banana and unsweetened coconut or almond milk to my drink mixes, however once in a while, I give myself a healthy treat. What I love about these drink mixes is that they are healthy on their own without adding anything extra other than some form of liquid (which can even be water, although I do prefer some form of non-dairy milk beverage).
After seeing a post on Facebook about craving MINT CHOCOLATE, I decided to create my very own Chocolate Mint Smoothie recipe for an occasional healthy treat.
This Healthy Chocolate Mint Smoothie is bound to help you control your chocolate cravings in a healthier way!
- Ensure that the peppermint essential oil you choose is FOOD GRADE
- You can use any chocolate flavoured drink mix, however I do highly recommend the Juice Plus Chocolate Complete as it is one of the tasiest that I have ever had!
- You can add as many drops of peppermint essential oil as you like to your taste preference or if you don’t have peppermint essential oil, you could use a natural peppermint extract instead.
- Be sure you use a blender that really mixes up the icecubes so that there are no bits of ice. A smoothie, thick, cold consistency is always best, in my opinion. I love my Vitamix blender as it works better than any blender I have ever used.
Do you ever crave chocolate mint like me?
