It’s that time of year when many of us get the urge to spring clean. Don’t forget your vehicle! Many of us spend a significant amount of time in our vehicles every day!
Don’t forget to Spring Clean your Car!
Every spring, I do a fairly detailed clean up of my vehicle. The salt and sand from the winter alone make the insides of the car look SO dirty. We spend a fair amount of time in our vehicle between after school shuttling to weekend road trips and I was shocked more like disgusted this spring when I cleaned out our van with what I found! I was able to fill an entire garbage bag with just garbage alone, let alone the stray toys and many more surprises.
Our van is 11 years old and has seen much better days. For a couple of years now, I have questioned its reliability, ever since we broke down on the 401 while on a road trip. Now with many more signs of wear, tear and age, we I admit, the Royal “we” have decided that it is time to get a new vehicle. It has been quite the decision process, but the final decision has been made. We have to wait for our vehicle to be made as I chose my favourite colour and they didn’t have our trim available in that colour. Are you curious what we chose? You’ll have to wait and see for that reveal!
In the mean time, I just couldn’t stand the looks of the inside of our vehicle, so last weekend, I gave my vehicle a good spring clean.
When you spring clean your car, I recommend you empty it out completely, clean it out and re-load it with only the essentials. Be sure you have a garbage bag (or two) on hand as well as your favourite cleaner and some paper towels or rags.

When we had just our first child we still had a rule about no eating in the car. Now that we have two kids we have caved in and allow eating in the car. I don’t like it, not so much for the mess (although I DON’T like that), but also because I don’t think it’s safe re: choking, e.g. in a sudden braking situation, or even worse if we were involved in an accident. However, we always seem to be out and about going from school to activities, and sometimes our only opportunity for a snack or quick meal is en route.
Oh, I’m right there with you on both counts, Jennifer, but I too caved 🙁
