Queraboo.ca – a Canadian Online Store for Moms & Babies

Canadian Mompreneur Karla Madeira from Queraboo.ca was kind enough to be interviewed in order for me to share some information about her wonderful online Canadian store. Read more to find out about Queraboo.ca!

1. I noticed while reading your About Section that Queraboo was founded in Europe in 2008. How and when did it arrive in Canada?
   I came across these lines while visiting family and friends in Europe. Through a close contact in Europe that deals in this business, we were able to secure the Canadian distribution rights for Elodie Details and Wallaboo.
2. You have some pretty fun products on your site. What are your favourite three and why?
   Definitely the Cheetah Diaper bag, I love the braided leather straps and it makes a bold fashion statement while being completely functional. The second item would be the cargo cap, mitts and booties. The aviator look is one of my favourites for a boy or girl and the fur makes it so cosy and warm. Lastly, the pacifier/clip collection because it’s just like having jewellery for your baby. You can choose a pacifier and clip to match your baby’s outfit and personality!

4. Does Queraboo.ca plan on expanding the brands that they sell? Right now, I see you only have three differnt brands on your site.
   Absolutely. This is only the beginning. Our mission is to constantly bring new and unique products to Canadian mothers and families.
5. What makes each brand that you feature special or unique?
   Our products provide an alternative for those moms who are looking for trendy, new looks for their babies. The Wallaboo line is geared towards offering products that are made from fabulous materials and provide a cosy look while allowing a variety of colours and styles. Elodie on the other hand offers it’s customers a chance to provide a statement with their unique patterns and stylish designs. Both lines will add European flair to the North American market and will definitely be a refreshing option for those moms and gift givers who are looking for a unique but useful item for babies and toddlers.
6. How do you keep up to date to ensure that all of the products you sell are safe?
   All of our products are subject to labeling requirements and we are diligently working with our lines to ensure we are in full compliance with Health Canada and other Canadian regulations. Products such as pacifiers, clips, baby bottles and sippy cups comply to all European Union standards which are equivalent or greater than Canadian standards. All plastic items are BPA-free and all metal items are nickel-free and lead-free. Our manufacturers are dedicated to the health and well-being of their customers. for example, all Elodie Details pacifiers are manufactured in Sweden to ensure excellent quality control and safety. Yoomi bottle warmers will not be available until it has been specifically tested to Canadian standards. We are doing this because the nature of this product will be unique to the market and we feel it is important to have all testing completed first.
7. Does your company support any charities or give back in any way?
   Absolutely. We have only been selling product for a few months through select independent retailers across Canada. We wanted to give back during Christmas, so we made a donation on behalf of those stores that have supported us during our launch to Make-A-Wish Foundation. We are currently looking for more ways to give back and support the communities throughout Canada.
8. What is your most favourite story about being a Momprenurer.
   Being a Momprenurer is new to me. I decided to give up my teaching career ten years ago, to follow my dream of becoming a stay at home mom. I enjoyed every milestone with my children, who have grown so quickly before my eyes. Now that they are both in school I debated whether to re-enter the teaching field or try something new. Becoming a Momprenurer has been a true blessing. It has been wonderful to learn so many new things and to gain wonderful new skills. It also gives me the opportunity to be a mom when I need to be, with flexibility to still be there for my kids but also to have something to call my own. queraboo canada has become my new baby and I look forward to nourishing and creating something wonderful that will grow and flourish.
9. Do you have anything else you would like to share with my readers about yourself or your company?
   Just like most moms out there I have always struggled to find the right balance which is why I waited to go back into the work force. Although stressful and busy at times, taking this risk has added so much to my life. It was amazing to be able to start something in an entirely different field and find success. Having products which I can believe in has made going out to the retailers and customers easy to do. You can be sure queraboo canada will continue to look for new, unique and affordable luxury items to bring to the North American market.
10. What is your most favourite part about being a Mom?
    My favourite part of being a mom is……being there. It’s really the everyday things I get the chance to do with them, the conversations at breakfast, the wiping of tears and of course the kiss good night.
