Board books are key for young babies and young children who are first being exposed to books. It makes page turning much easier due to a baby’s reduced dexterity skills, but it also allows the book to be carried around without having to worry about torn pages.
We still give our almost 3 year old board books when he is in a playful mood, but he still would like to read a book independently so that we don’t have to use any form of negative talk when he makes the choice to read a book. This way, he can feel independent and we can encourage him to treat a book properly, yet he can still have success.
I am a fan of Marilyn Janovitz’s baby board books! They are really sweet.
