Inspired by five stories from A.A. Milne’s books in Disney’s classic, hand-drawn art style, Winnie The Pooh hits the theatres this Friday July 15th, 2011!
My family had the privilege of seeing an advanced screening of this movie this past weekend in Toronto at the AMC Theatres at Yonge and Dundas Square (VERY nice and SUPER clean theatres, I might add).
It was my son’s very first movie in a theatre (he is 2.5 years old) and my daughter’s 3rd movie. We weren’t too sure how my son would react to the theatre in general – would it be too dark? would it be too loud? But, Winnie the Pooh turned out to be the PERFECT first movie for him! It was a great length at one hour and three minutes. He wouldn’t have been able to sit for too much longer no matter how great the movie was!
I love the fact that this movie was done with old style animation in mind. It really reminded me of the old Winnie the Pooh from when I was a child!
Without giving away too much, I also love how the movie is made to entertain children and adults alike. There are many plays on words and text that goes over the majority of childrens’ heads that is just so clever! Being a former Kindergarten teacher, I love how this movie is based on a book and it keeps going back into the book. It really plays on a child’s imagination and also helps to develop some literacy awareness too.
Of course, like every movie has, there is a conflict, but it wasn’t too scary for my super sensitive 2.5 year old! Tigger has his ways with adding comic relief anytime the movie could potentially get even the slightest bit scary.
My husband and I both thought this movie was really well done and our children both really enjoyed it!
Here’s a trailer for you to enjoy and let me know if you go see it! It comes out TODAY: Friday July 15th, 2011.
