This Mother’s Day, my family will be supporting EveryMotherCounts.Org, an organization that believes in the importance of prenatal and postnatal medical care for women around the globe.
Think about how much money we as a society spends on Mother’s Day. Whether it be gifts, flowers, food, wine, pampering, you name it, it’s a lot of money! Just how much? $14.6 billion* was spent on Mother’s Day presents last year in the U.S. alone! I wish I had Canadian statistics, but I don’t. That is A LOT of money people!
There is one maternal death every 90 seconds.
Just think. If each of us donated even $2 or what about $5, think about about how much money we could raise to change this!
In the United States you can also donate your used cell phones, go here for details. They even pay for the shipping!
Every Mother Counts is partnering with CARE to build health clinics in the Democratic Republic of Congo which will allow women access to clean delivery environments and basic obstetric care.
Every Mother Counts is partnering with Save the Children to support midwife training in Afghanistan, where maternal health rates are at their worst.
Every Mother Counts and Riders for Health will provide health workers in Western Kenya with motorcycle transportation and the necessary training to ensure that women can be reached with life saving care.
