As Barney Saltzbery says himself, “A life lesson that all parents want their children to learn: It’s OK to make a mistake. In fact, hooray for mistakes! A mistake is an adventure in creativity, a portal of discovery. A spill doesn’t ruin a drawing—not when it becomes the shape of a goofy animal. And an accidental tear in your paper? Don’t be upset about it when you can turn it into the roaring mouth of an alligator.”
Saltzberg’s book Beautiful Oops, shows children through very tactile, beautiful and interactive examples that mistakes can turn into beautiful things!
Beautiful Oops teaches children to let their imaginations run wild when they make a mistake. The book is filled with pop-ups, lift-the-flaps, tears, holes, overlays, bends, smudges and even an accordion telescope. It has got to be the singular most creative book I’ve ever seen!
I absolutely LOVE this book! I think that it is actually one of my most favourite books of all times and it will definitely become a book that I will include in gift packs for new Moms at Baby Showers or when I give birthday gifts in the future for sure! I will even tuck this book in the back of my mind for a time when an adult in my life makes a mistake that they have a hard time letting go. I think this would be a perfect gift for that adult during that difficult time!
