More Than Saying I Love You by Dr. Andie (Andrea Goodman Weiner) is a book about teaching your child (ren) how to love themselves. Loving yourself is a very important skill (if you will) to have! It helps to provide you with self confidence, acceptance, kindness and more.
This book explains why saying the words I Love You is not enough. Although those words are powerful on their own, there are many more things that a parent can do in order to help their child feel loved.
More Than Saying I Love You is a very powerful read as a parent. What better gift could a parent pass along to their child than teaching them how to love themselves! If you love yourself, forming other meaningful and loving relationships with others will be easier to accomplish. You will also be able to make good choices for YOU and not feel as influenced by others. This is something that I am working SO hard at with my daughter (and my son too, but he is a bit younger).
I love how this book takes you right from the very beginning of a child’s life and what you can do when they are an infant right up to adulthood.
The author, Dr. Andie, really makes this book REAL by including letters that she wrote to her daughter when she was a baby as well as an essay that her daughter wrote on her College Applications (the question was: What was the best piece of advice you ever received?).
Each chapter opens with a letter from the author to her daughter (they move through time as you read through the book) and each chapter includes exercises to help you achieve your goal as well as tips and reminders at the end of the chapter.
This truly is an inspiring book, a good read and something that every parent could gain from!
