On Wednesday night, my 9 year old (almost 10!) daughter and I went on a date night. We truly had an evening of feeling like princesses together from a coach (Go Bus) ride downtown to having an amazing dinner (yay Jack Astors!) to watching the advanced screening of Cinderella (OMG my favourite movie ever)!
I love girls night out with my daughter because it always gives us a chance to bond, to catch up and for me to educate and guide her (when needed). Last night, the movie Cinderella did the education and guidance part WAY better than I ever could! The movie had so many positive messages for girls!
My favourite message came from
Cinderella’s mother about:
Courage and Kindness
These are two IMPORTANT characteristics that I try to instill in my children!
I want my daughter to remember the main message in this movie always and forever, so I created a printable that we will print off, frame and put up somewhere in room. Would you like to do the same? There were some other amazing positive messages for girls in this more modern take of Cinderella. Cinderella was very comfortable and confident in her own shoes throughout the movie. Her character was very “strong, spirited and empowered”, something that I want my daughter to feel as well. The other idea that I LOVED in the story was that Cinderella and the Prince fell in love as equals. Their social position in life made no difference, something that for me is so important in all types of relationships in life.
My daughter woke up the next morning, after seeing the movie and put this together to share with you (yes, we even got a bag of PINK Princess Goldfish):
What is your Cinderella Moment?
Don’t you think that Lily James is such a beautiful and down to earth person?
If I were to ask a question to Lily James, it would be: Did you actually get to wear the glass slippers and just how comfortable were they really?
Cinderella comes out in theatres TODAY!
When will you be going to see this amazing movie? Tell me!
My daughter and I would LOVE to know what your Cinderella Moment is!
Mine is definitely my wedding day and my daughter said that hers was her Cinderella experience was her evening together with me (awwww….)!
Ok, I have one final story to share….
On Wednesday night, my hubby and son went to my son’s very first Leaf’s Game the same night that my daughter and I went to see Cinderella. My daughter and I ended up RUNNING to catch the bus so that we didn’t have to wait another hour. Just as we were approaching the platform, we saw a bus pull away. My heart fell with the knowledge that we would have to wait another hour for a bus. Just then…I saw my husband in a line up. We sprinted up to him and my son and I literally fell into his arms. That sigh of relieve and having my husband literally HOLD.ME.UP after running so fast was truly a Cinderella Moment for me. GO Transit ended up coordinating a second bus (because the first one was full) and within minutes, we were on a bus heading home all together. It was a lovely ride home sharing our experiences that night. Truly, a fairy tale ending.
My girls are very excited to see this movie! My Cinderella moment was at my wedding!
Oh Heidi – they will love it! My wedding day was definitely my Cinderella moment too! xo

I agree my Cinderella moment was my wedding day!
I haven’t seen this new Cinderella but, because of what I learned from this post, I am a fan already. It is wonderful that the messages of kindness and equalilty are stressed in this movie and, hopefully, the children who attend this movie will be affected positively by them.
I love a movie that sends positive messages to our children
I still haven’t seen this new Cinderella
