  2. loriag says:

  10. They definitely can be 🙂 I’m one of them! Are you?

  11. LOL and how old is she?

  12. Olivia @ This West Coast Mommy says:

  15. paulaschuck says:

Adorable little girl you have. That’s the kind of thing my oldest would do. She is a helper by nature and once in awhile I have to remind her to step back and let other people do the job because she is a kid. (especially since her sister has special needs) I don’t like for people to use her to manage her sister’s special needs. It’s tricky that way. I love that she is kind and caring and has a gift that way though.

  16. Jennifer says:

I think my mom could use these for her hot flashes

  17. Guest says:

I try to moisturize my lips at least 2-4 times a day.. More so in the winter time, as I get chapped lips as soon as its cold out!

  34. Jennifer Van Huss says:

My kids, especially DD2 are amazing in the grocery store. DD2 MUST hold the cart, she is far too big to ride…lol. The boys do well when I give them things to retrieve!

  35. That is amazing that you have such a cooperative little one, Jennifer! Missed you on Saturday!

  36. I remember when my kids were really little and were willing to sit in the cart – I would hit three, sometimes four stores in order to get all of the best deals. I can tell you right now, it has been a LONG time since that has happened! I wonder how much money I could have saved if I had kept that up.

I definitely remember the day when my oldest could start reading the tv line up too, that began the random kids shows being recorded on our PVR! lol get ready to record every episode of the backyardigans ever created!

  543. I love that the hubby wrote a post, I’ve been asking mine to the last couple of months, maybe will get him in the near year. 🙂

I think our little ones are almost alike. DD8 loved reading, having sight words, learning and my DD6 is just now starting to actually get into it and like it as well. I love Treehouse on Demand, the fact that the kids can easily put it on and watch any of their favorite shows and without my help makes things a bit easier in our household.

That Toopy and Binoo show is so weird, but my kids loved it when they were smaller and from time to time still watch it.

  544. Brandy says:

What a great idea! I never thought of using the TV guide as a way to help with literacy. Our kids are big fans of Toopy and Binoo. I don’t mind it. And good for your hubs for writing this post! Loved the different perspective.

  743. elizamatt says:

Getting children interested in reading is so important. I know one of my daughters let her younger sister (just under a year apart in age) read to her when it was bedtime – this was actually time alloted so they could read themselves. She just couldn’t be bothered reading herself! When I look at her now, a mother herself with a top job it makes me wonder. Children go at their own pace, sure they need encouragement but normally at some point they do realise they are working for themselves and nobody else.

  744. elizamatt says:

I do like the look of these mats, nice bright colours so they are really cheerful looking. Much nicer for children to crawl over rather than tiles or wooden floors.

They can learn at their own speed. It’s amazing how technology plays into learning. My 5 year old learns all sorts of new words from TV and totally surprises me.

(Honestly, I think they were afraid that they wouldn’t understand it since they aren’t techies, even though I told them it isn’t necessary to be a techie to enjoy this movie). I am one of those people that love grocery shopping, and I love it even more now that my youngest is in jk part time because I am able to go by myself when he is at school. But when I had to take all three kids it was always a nightmare i can remember a large size jar of dill pickles smashing all over the floor because my 5 year old just had to touch everything! aHHHHH! But I am sure I am not the only one that has happened too but it can be very frustrating haha

  892. It’s amazing the things we consider treats once we beomce parents! My son swiped at a glass jar once – I cringed as I thought it would do what your pickle jar did – we were very lucky, but yes, I get it!

  899. Aeryn Lynne says:

Great idea on getting the lights up now! Its so true! I have plenty of memories of holding the ladder in the freezing, snowy weather while my dad tacked on another length of lights, lol. Yes I do put on winter tires, in Alberta it’s the only safe thing to do and I always get them on fairly early. My son didn’t and he’s now having to wait as appointments were already well booked.

  909. elizamatt says:

I’ve lived in Germany in an area where there was no winter to speak of, so no winter tires for the majority. However one year we did get snow & with summer tires I slipped down the hill out of control! I was lucky I did manage to stop in the end and there was very little traffic but I will never be without winter tires again.

I like the look of these but I must admit ours was never used! I had a plastic insert that went under the toilet seat, climbing up there must have been the challenge the children needed, mostly went well. The odd child thought they knew better and ended up in the toilet because they thought they were big enough not to bother with the insert :-). That only ever happened once at the most with each child.

We have food dives 4x/year, Jump Rope for Heart, The Terry Fox Run as well as many other charitable initiatives throughout the year (coat drive, shoe drive, Operation Christmas Child). When my son first read “Snack Pack” at the store I bought the pudding for all of us! There has to be perks to reading, right?!?!

  1093. elizamatt says:

This is an awful lot different to how my mum and I used to make Royal Icing to cover Christmas cakes, I remember there were eggs used. What do you mean with ‘Add more milk to flood’

1094. I should fix that to make it more clear. If you are using the Royal Icing to flood a cookie, you need to add more milk than that to make the consistency runnier.

  1095. elizamatt says:

now I understand what you meant, thanks for sorting that out for me.

1096. No problem 🙂 Thanks so much for your comment.

Great post, and lots of ideas from your long list! Having a Kids Book Subscription is something every parent should consider. Reading for your kids is a good thing, no matter what medium you use. Joining a book of the month club when our son was just 6 months old and reading at least 30 minutes every day for him was the best thing we ever did, as we clearly see that now he is far ahead of others at the same age. Reading everyday for your child is worth every penny!

This looks like a great healthy recipe that would be a pleaser in my house. Thanks for sharing.

I haven’t in years! We celebrate Christmas on the 26th which is just easier for all with spouses and it is also my dad’s birthday. When it comes to desserts he is a freak, but even more so a CHERRY freak. These would be perfect for me to bring this year! Thank you!

  1130. Denise E says:

I would probably keep for myself 🙂

  1131. Dayna Wilson says:

LOVE IT! I love everything about this article. We’ve always been very careful to provide our son with toys that are characteristic of both genders. He has a pink dollhouse, dolls, and My Little Ponys as well as trucks, a toolbench, and super hero figures. I’ve found that he naturally gravitates more towards the typically “boy” toys, which is totally fine, I just always felt that he should have the choice to play with what he wanted.
I found out I was pregnant with #2 on his first birthday (he’s 17 months now), and one of the first things I did was go out and buy him a baby doll. I encourage him to carry it around and snuggle it and treat it gently, and tell him that he needs to get ready for his little sister. So far he’s doing great…though he does have a tendency to throw the doll on the floor when he’s bored with her 😉

1132. Great roundup! So many ideas here – just what I needed! And thanks for sharing a few of mine.

1133. It is a heart warming story, isn’t it?!

  1134. elizamatt says:

strangely enough, although I definitely have a sweet tooth and love chocolate I have never liked Ferrero Roche. In Germany they were a regular goody in homes and on special occasions, I missed out all the time :-(.
