Today, I would like to share a segment written by Lorena Scott, a Toronto-based momtrepreneur and founder of MommiesFirst.

MommiesFirst is an amazing Baby Shower Gift idea as the gift can start giving to an expectant Mom before her baby arrives and is the gift that keeps on giving.
My story began three years ago when I traded my high heels for flats, business suits for nursing tanks, and fashion magazines for What to Expect When You’re Expecting. I was a new mom, and I was scared, overwhelmed, and confused. And, to be perfectly honest, I was angry that no one had warned me about how it would really feel to be a new mom. I was supposed to be prepared, and I thought I had a great resume from a decade of work experience, but I was failing after just one week in my new “job”. I have never forgotten those feelings of despair and loneliness during not only the early days of my son’s life but throughout his first year. All of those struggles and emotions came flooding back this past December when my second son was born. But this time, I had a bit more confidence, so I resolved to do something about it – to create something that would help make a difference for all the other new moms out there. And that’s how MommiesFirst was born.
With two babies on my lap (literally), on Mother’s Day 2012, we launched the MommiesFirst website. I shared my story as honestly as possible with other moms, and asked them to join me in my quest to help make lives for new moms a little bit easier and a lot less stressful. How do we do this? We’ve created a MommiesFirst Council, comprised of moms, dads, and baby experts, to find, test, and review the huge amount of baby and mom focused product out there. Based on their feedback, we send expectant and new moms monthly care packages with 4-5 different types of products designed to help them navigate through the journey of motherhood. By sending beautiful packages to moms that are also super helpful, we help moms discover the best products for them and their babies. What we don’t do, is pretend to be able to solve all of a new mom’s challenges, or worse yet, sugar coat these issues. Instead, we appreciate the difficulties because we’ve 100% been there too.
Because of MommiesFirst, I can now add mom + entrepreneur to my lists of roles and responsibilities, which, by the way, doesn’t make me very different either. One of the most rewarding aspects of creating MommiesFirst is supporting other mompreneurs who were inspired by their personal journeys as mothers and developed great companies. We are giving moms a platform to tell their stories and showcase their incredible products.
My story as a mom, entrepreneur, and multi-tasker is still being written, but what I wanted to share is that I’m a mom on a mission. I’m committed to helping moms (and their babies) through MommiesFirst. Recently I was asked if I had embarked on this entrepreneurship path to lead a more balanced life or have more time with my kids. “Balance” as a mom is a myth – so NO. And while the job per se doesn’t allow me more time with my kids, this journey is 100% inspired by them. I want to teach my boys that having a dream and wanting to make a difference – and then pursuing these two goals relentlessly– is both important and possible. My sons are my ultimate inspiration and this story is dedicated to them.

I am a single man…how would I know all of this? Well done
LOL Single men still need to know gift ideas for pregnant and new Moms, right?
this seems like it was a very good idea
I’m a mom of 2 and when my husband and I had our first we were living in the basement apartment of my parent’s house. So I had my mom, dad, and 2 sisters to help out. Don’t know how it would have gone if hubby and I were on our own to figure it out. It sure is a huge change! I love how the idea for this company came to be. What a great resource for new moms.
That is a lot of help! I bet you really appreciated it!
This is a great service! Wonderful idea for new mommies. 🙂
