Have You Had to Think About Elder Care for YOUR Parents?

They say that everything comes full circle and I’m starting to believe that it’s true!

We give birth to our babies, we care for our helpless little babies, then they grow up to become independent adults (at least we hope they do) and eventually, if we’re lucky, they care for us.

We often make jokes that our children will one day be in charge of our futures, but it really isn’t a joke! It is the truth.

Have you had to think about elder care for your parents yet? Have they hit that age yet where things just aren’t the way that they used to be? Have things been happening that really shouldn’t that you are making excuses for time and time again?

Many of us stay in denial until it is almost too late to find good skilled nursing homes for the people that we love and care about. We wait until something happens and then we panic and we have to act so fast that we don’t have the time to do the proper hunt for the best living situation that our loved ones deserve!

One thing that I learned, watching my parents deal with their parents, is to investigate your options long before it becomes necessary. Get names on waiting lists etc. if possible before they need to be because many places have over a five year long wait list.

This is a very difficult topic to discuss, but please don’t be in denial! Help your loved ones have the best quality of life that they deserve. Keep them and others safe, healthy and as happy as possible.

  1. It is something that my parents and I joke about from time to time. I am doing everything in my power to save as much money as possible NOW, so that I can help everyone that needs helping in the future!

  2. We dealt with mom – almost 10 years of brain cancer & aftermath. TOUGH. Dad hopes to be “hit by a cement truck”. He really says that; unfortunately, I understand.
