Product Review: Burts Bees Sunscreen

With the kids going back to school in another week, we can’t forget about re-stocking our sunscreen products. I don’t know about your children, but my daughter heads out for lunchtime recess for approximately 40 minutes every school day right at prime sun time.

During September and the spring months, I lather her with sunscreen before I send her off to school.

I continue to sample various sunscreens in search for the perfect one for our family.

One of the latest natural ones that we tried out this summer was Burt’s Bee’s Sunscreen that comes in both 15 and 30 strength.

SunScreen SPF 15
This non-greasy formula provides broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection. Titanium dioxide, a naturally-occuring mineral creates a micro-fine barrier on your skin to reflect the sun’s harmful rays. The natural sunscreen is effective immediately upon application and is safe for kids.

SunScreen SPF 30
This 100% natural, non-whitening formula provides broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection . Titanium dioxide, a naturally-occurring mineral creates a micro-fine barrier on your skin to reflect the sun’s harmful rays. The natural sunscreen is effective immediately upon application and is safe for kids.

Although the scent of this sunscreen made my daughter cringe every time I put it on her (it didn’t make me cringe, but I will say I think they could make it smell a bit better), what I liked best about this natural sunscreen was that it didn’t leave a terrible thick, white paste like most natural sunscreens do. Out of all of the natural sunscreens that we have tried out, I honestly like this one the best.

I found it to be effective (both the 15 and 30 provided more than adequate protection from burning), easy enough to apply (again with natural sunscreens I don’t think one can expect them to be the same as the other kinds) and I felt good knowing what I was spreading on my kids bodies.

I do have to say though that I did go back to using the traditional sunscreens on my toddler as greasing up a squirmy pig is a difficult job as it is and I needed something that would be super easy to put on him this year.

My daughter has been a Burts Bees fan for several years and the grandkids are a bit older so they don’t squirm when it is applied
