Some interesting finds were discovered during a recent health survey of Canadians conducted by the makers of Honeywell Air Purifiers and Vicks Humidifiers & Thermometers.
- Nearly half (43%) of Canadians suffer from airborne allergies, and in almost a quarter (22%) of homes at least two people are allergy-sufferers.
- The majority of Canadians (69%) estimate that having a sick child costs over C$20 a day, and 18% estimate that it costs over C$100!
- Most respondents (64%) indicated that fever scares them, and 70% of parents call the Healthline or doctor at least sometimes when their child is sick.
I LOVE Dr. Dave Greenberg! I remember when he was a guest on the Mom Show, I used to love all of his tips and tricks. Here are his tips for the cold and flu season:
Flu Facts – When homes are kept at the optimal 40-60 percent relative indoor humidity level, flu virus survival in the air can be dramatically decreased – by up to 30%. Homes with radiant heat see a bigger decrease in flu virus survival when using a humidifier compared to homes with forced air heat.
Time to Recover – They might be running around the house, feeling healthy but itβs important to keep kids home from school, play dates, and after school activities for at least 24 hours after their fever breaks.
Prevent & Protect – Many people say the best way protect yourself and your family from the flu is with the vaccine. It takes about two weeks for your body to develop protective antibodies, so the sooner you get vaccinated the better.
Two of my “must-have” items during the winter is a good cool mist humidifier like the Vicks Starry Night Cool Mist Humidifier and a reliable thermometer like the Braun ThermoScan Ear Thermometer with ExacTemp Technology.
I used to only use a humidifier when the kids got sick, but this winter, I have decided to have one running on low all of the time. I have already noticed a difference in our skin, and I’m sure it has helped our breathing as well. Our thermometer has already had a fair workout. I am loving the Braun Ear Thermometer because it is easy and FAST to use!

It works well, doesn’t it? Hope your daughter feels better!
I am a fan because I love following your site and giveaways, but more importantly- anyone who offers us Timmies this winter knows and loves their fans! thanks!
LOL yes, right!
I try! It’s not very easy quite yet, my son is only 18 months, and my daughter will be here in 5 weeks. Right now it’s pretty much just finger painting and glitter glue…but I like to hold on to ideas and put them on Pinterest for when they’re older! π
The F5 trick also works in Explorer now π whereas before it was only Firefox.
Finger painting on a high chair with chocolate pudding and then taking an impression with finger paint paper is considered a craft still π 5 more weeks – how exciting! Are you a fan of @MommiesFirstBox – I would love to chat with you over there π
See right there, that’s a great idea! π I am absolutely a fan of Mommies First. I would have loved to have gotten a subscription during my pregnancy but sadly, it wasn’t in the budget. Alas!
I understand, don’t worry! You can ask for a subscription as a gift π The boxes go all the way through your daughter’s first year! Take a pic if you try the pudding idea and share it on my FB page!
I am a fan because you always post amazing stuff… from recipes to DIY to contests and you get down to the nitty gritty of it all! THANK YOU for having me as a fan π
Thanks, Laurie – I appreciate your kind words π
