@FLOR Tiles in a Nursery!

“FLOR is an innovative system of carpet squares that you assemble to create custom rugs, runners, or wall-to-wall designs of any shape or size”.

As stated on their website.

It’s been an exciting year for our family – with the birth of our first child in September, followed by a recent move into our first house as a family of three (ok four if you count our dog which we usually do)!

We were literally bursting at the seams in out little 750 square foot home without a basement! We had planned to last for 1-2 years in our little house before moving however we quickly realized that our little one was going to need more space – or rather her stuff needed more space and FAST!

Now that we are in our new space, it’s so exciting trying to figure out where we will put everything and also best of all – how we will decorate each room! Naturally, I wanted to start with the baby’s room and wanted to stick with my colour scheme from the old house – yellow, white, grey, and a few hits of red. The room we chose for the baby’s room is a neat shape (sort of like a T) with a space at the ‘stem’ of the T to play and store items, and a space at the top of the T to sleep and be changed! As there is a lot of room to play and hardwood floors, I began to search for an environmentally friendly and affordable flooring solution.

I wanted to have a surface that would provide some cushioning for us while we rock and change, but also for our little one to play. As the space is a unique shape, I was hoping to find something that would fit well. I came across the company called Flor and really liked what I saw!

Check out this video:
The ability to mix and match and create your own pattern while also being able to choose the size and layout of the carpet tiles was very appealing. They were also VERY reasonably priced compared to ‘regular’ carpets! In addition, the tiles have low VOC emission, can be assembled using special FLORdot adhesives (without sticking to your floor!), are easy to clean and are made with renewable, recycled content and can be recycled!!!

We decided to have some fun, and while searching in the Nursery/Kids section of the website were drawn to the checkerboard effect. We decided to go with yellow and were guided by the experts at FLOR to determine the amount of tiles needed for our space and which colours of yellow would go best together. We ended up going with 12 tiles of ‘rake me over’ in sunny and 12 tiles of ‘heaven sent’ in marigold in order to make the checkerboard effect.

They were shipped straight to our new front door in very little time and we immediately opened a box and lay them out on our main floor as we needed a place for our little one to play while we were unpacking!

Now that we have the tiles set up in the designated room, they look amazing and give a really warm feeling to our little one’s space. She loves crawling around on the carpet while I put away laundry and continue to unpack all of her stuff.

I strongly encourage you to check out FLOR as an amazing alternative to traditional carpet. They can be used in any room and arranged in any way you want which is so handy for any home! We LOVE the tiles we chose and will definitely use FLOR again in the future when it comes time to choose a flooring solution for other rooms in our new home. We were maybe thinking of using them as a runner for our stairs as you can cut them to size – or maybe even as a hall runner…the possibilities are endless!!!

  1. Those are so cool! I’m definitely going to check into them for the playroom and kids rooms in our new house. We are like how you were – living in an 800 sq ft house with no basement with two kids. We’re building a new house and we hope to be in next month!
