Del Monte Teacher Monday “Backpack with School Supplies” Giveaway

Del Monte has an incredible goal and that is to get children to across North America to eat healthier! That is a lofty goal, but I do believe it is achievable through education, positive role models and encouragement!

Yesterday, I wrote a post about how my daughter and I shopped for food in order for us to “Eat a Rainbow” at snack time. I have talked about how important a variety of colours in our fruits and vegetables is important to our health. We have read books and become educated of our options every grocery store trip that we take. I’m so excited that her nutrition education is starting to pay off. She actually wants to eat healthy (most of the time!).

The information below has been taken directly from Teacher Monday Cash for Classrooms Contest.

In an effort to get school children across North America to eat healthier, Del Monte Fresh Produce is holding its second annual “Teacher Monday: Cash for Classrooms” online contest.

“Teacher Monday: Cash for Classrooms” encourages kindergarten thru 12th grade school teachers to incorporate healthy eating and living messages into classroom activities. Sixty teachers will win a total of $1,000 in cash to purchase school supplies and fresh fruit for their students. Several winners will also get a Del Monte Fresh® Field Day event for their school in which the entire student body will enjoy a day of Del Monte fresh fruit, games and fun activities.

To be eligible to win, teachers must register online, submit a short essay on how they will incorporate healthy eating and living messages into their lesson plans, then encourage all their fans to vote for them online. Ten winners will be selected each Monday for six consecutive weeks beginning October 3, 2011. Winners are based solely on the number of votes they receive. Winning teachers will receive $750 in cash to purchase school supplies and $250 in Del Monte® fresh fruit coupons for classroom fresh snacks and to use in fruit educational activities.

Winning North American schools will also be linked with schools in countries where Del Monte grows its fruit to help further the education of students by introducing them to another culture. Global schools will also receive $1,000 each for school supplies and improvements.

I know with the large class sizes teachers do not have time to coddle each student but to me if the teacher gets the student extra help from his parents and a special ed teacher, and make people make some decisions on what’s best for the child is the sign of a great teacher!

  11. I think teachers are incredible. I am sure that you have to be a certain kind of person to devote your life to teaching others. You have to have a great rapport with children, be able to talk to them on their level and have an abundance of patience.

I could never be a teacher and I respect those who choose that profession.

I could go on and on about that topic! For starters, they are severly underpaid, yet responsible for teaching our future! They are underpaid, again, and yet they are taking care of our children all day long, for free to us! They are underpaid, again, and yet they are expected to have accredidation at a level close to what a doctor must have! Can you tell I love teachers! What would we do without them?
