One of my favourite family traditions during the holiday season that we have in our family is to walk around our neighbourhood after dinner and check out all of the beautiful holiday decorations and lights. At least once, we will also hop in our car and slowly drive through other local neighbourhoods.
One thing that I’ve been impressed with this year are what some people are doing to their garage doors! The holiday decor that I have noticed on and around garage doors stand out all day and night! I’ve seen seasonal painted doors, garlands, lights and more!
I noticed one of my neighbours, standing up on her ladder (something that we don’t even own, can you believe it?), somehow attaching a beautiful garland above her garage door. I’ve found myself wondering how she attached it to make it stay in place as nicely as it has. I’m best friends with duct tape, but something tells me she didn’t use that!
My friends in Ottawa have told me that there are some great decorated garage doors in Ottawa! I don’t think I’ll be making the drive this year, but I sure do hope that one day soon I’ll be able to pay a visit to a dear friend of mine who lives there! One year, I would LOVE to make it to Ottawa for their New Year’s Eve celebration! It always looks (and sounds) like so much fun when we see it on tv!

Yikes…that reminds me, I have to put out the decorations. I love lights and lots of them. I’ll put some on a tree and string them around a garland that will twist around our porch. I hang big, unbreakable ornaments too. Of course we have a wreath.

January 30-I love filling planters with various cut greenery, adding red alder shoots and rose hips, if available.
I also love icicle lights around the eaves, and ‘reindeer’ on the lawn. I don’t have reindeer but I really love the look of them. The Nativity Scene is a favourite, as well. Elva Roberts
