Foodie February: How to Make Royal Icing

Last year, I started venuturing into cookie, cake and cupcake decorating.

Without taking lessons, this was a challenge at first and by no means am I good at it, however with the help of a few amazing people online, I have been able to learn many great tips.

One of my favourite blogs is I Am Baker. There are so many great tips on Amanda’s blog along with some awesome video tutorials! The pictures are so beautiful and inspiring, she is one talented baker!

Today, with permission, I am going to share with you this video about how to make good Royal Icing. I’ve tried many recipes, I’ve had icing floods all over my countertops (and floors) and I’ve had cookies with icing that never hardened, but this recipe and method is foolproof and it works!

This weekend my kids and I made Sugar Cookies and we had a blast decorating them! I will share a post here soon.

  1. Ms. Key says:

I’ve never tried to make royal icing beore, I suppose because it’s typically for cookies? Is that true? I don’t usually bake the type of cookies that you ice. Or, do you use it for other baked good as well?

When I make my icing for cupcakes, it’s just icing sugar, vanilla extract, and milk. Easy-peasy, nice and thick too for cupcakes/cakes.
