Last year, 3M Scotch Brite asked Canadians to reveal their “Dirty Little Secrets” regarding cleaning. Here are a few of them:
*I often use the same cloth to clean my floor as I do on my dishes.
*My fridge is the best place to kick crumbs under.
*I use my socks to clean up spills on the floor.
We all have our own “Dirty Little Secrets” when it comes to cleaning, I’m sure! I will admit to wiping up a spill on the floor, rinsing out the cloth really well with hot water and then using that same cloth on the counter or for dishes! If you’re my friend, I’m sorry that you’re reading this and that bothers you, but I have young children and if I were to change cloths every time I wiped up a spill on the floor, I’d have to own stock in a cloth company! I try hard to keep a floor cloth and a counter cloth and face cloths, but sometimes it gets a bit hairy around here 🙂
To get a good giggle at more dirty little secrets, check out the Dirty Little Secrets Website
So, what are your dirty secrets?
I don’t know that I have any dirty little cleaning secrets. I know that I dislike cleaning very much but am too cheap and broke to pay for a cleaner to come in.

My cleaing tip would be to start the children young. I have twin 3 year olds and a 5 year old and even though I have to re-clean what they do it’s still good to get them involed.
I always clean as I go and that way I never have a huge mess to clean up.

My dirty little secret: I hate cleaning the oven, so I leave it…and leave it…until it’s pretty bad.

A cleaning tip: baking soda, vinegar and lemon juice are fabulous non-chemical, cheap cleaners that can clean a multitude of things. I was surprised at how well they worked!

Living alone I probably having more “dirty little secrets” than some, but one would be that I have a habit of using my dish brush to actually wash my pots with!

My home is cluttered but not dirty. I put items into a bag or box or cleaning day and it sorted later …or diposed of.
I have been known on occasion to sweep dirt under the couch instead of using the dust pan!
A cleaning tip: Use a mixture of vinegar and water as a glass cleaner. It works great and is much cheaper than a store bought glass cleaner.

My dirty little secret LOL, I am to tired to clean as much as I should 😉 I homeschool, I work part time, and I am just busy doing life full on – cleaning is just not on my list of must do things right now (though there are no rats or anything honest!)

My dirty little cleaning secret is that I use my daughter’s baby wipes to clean anything last minute! 😀
Mine is that I sweep often, and mop rarely. Bad, I know, but if I can’t see it, its not there, right?!
My tip, is try and vaccumn often, even if its just a really fast one. Makes it look a bit cleaner than it might be.
My dirty little cleaning secret is to throw all the clutter in a paper bag and deal with it later! 🙂

My dirty little cleaning secret is that I clean small spills up with my socks – and sometimes tell my kids to do the same! I’m glad I’m not the only one. 🙂
My cleaning tip is that I often use my handheld cordless vac to “sweep” the corners of my hardwood floors and stairs. It doesn’t do as good a job, but it’s quick, and I don’t have to fuss with a dustpan after!
My dirty little secret is that I let my dishes pile up till moldy. I only clean them when I’m sick of washing a dish everytime I want to eat off of it. I hate doing dishes.

Cleaning Tip:
Okay this isn’t mine. It’s MOlly Maid’s and came from the Molly Maid’s Cleaning Handbook. When cleaning windows, wipe horizontally on one side and vertically on the other. That way you will always know what side a streak is on at first glance so you can fix it. Isn’t that a great tip??!!

Oh my goodness!! This is an amazing giveaway! We use so many of these products already at my house! Our dirty little secret is that (being college students) we rarely change our sponge to clean dishes!! 🙁
jjensen3@connect.carleton.ca
Microwave your damp sponge for 20 seconds to disinfect it!
Let your dog get all those crumbs you drop:-)
not really a secret but I use a lot of alcohol solution—to clean most everything!

I don’t like dusting!! I tend to leave my dusting for a few months – only cleaning the DARK obvious surfaces more often. I would love the win this!!!
I can’t do a big clean very often because I am so busy with work and school. I do try and tidy one room a day. It makes things more manageable if I put in 15 min a day instead of 2-3 hours once a week. If people want to come visit and it’s messy, I hide stuff in the closet first. I’ve even hidden dishes in the oven once. LOL
My tip is to bring the recycling box and a garbage bag with you when you are cleaning each room. It’s amazing how quickly they fill up, and you can get rid of some clutter that way. I also keep a seperate box for stuff that can be given away. When it’s full, I leave it in the lobby of my apartment, and it is empty within an hour. Sometimes I take the box to shelters as well.

I use the kitchen cloths to clean in the bathroom as well.

Instead of buying the cloths for Swiffer type floor cleaners, I cut up old flannel shirts or pajama bottoms and make reusable sheets. They can be washed in the regular laundry & thrown away when no longer useable. I also make my own solution for the cloths by making a mix of 1-2 tablespoons of cider vinegar to 1 cup of water-it’s “green” and antibacterial too!
Happy New Year!
Thank you so much for having this giveaway. I got my prize pack tonight and it is really nice. I don’t think the picture above does it justice. I am really impressed with it. I have never used some of these products and was so excited that I ALMOST started to clean tonight. LOL!
