My daughter and I discovered some more eco-friendly gift wrapping ideas while we were wrapping stocking stuffers for hubby together! We would love to hear some of your eco-friendly wrapping ideas.
LCBO (brown paper liquor store bags)
- cut off the bottom of the bag
- cut open the bag from top to bottom
- lie gift on the “decorated outside” of the bag
- finished product will look like it has been wrapped in plain brown craft paper
- use markers or crayons to add a personal touch to the outside
Homemade Material Bags
Last year for Christmas, I asked my Mom to make me some gift bags out of material. She is a super sewer unlike yours truly and she even added ties onto the top of the bags. She made a variety of sizes; some are small stocking stuffer size and some are HUGE Santa Sack sized!
Reuse tissue paper
Although using tissue paper isn’t eco-friendly, in our house, tissue paper lasts years and years. After we open gifts, we fold the paper back up and store it away for next year. Often we don’t use tape to wrap the gifts, just a piece of ribbon that can also be reused.
Packing Paper
If you receive shipped packages in the mail, they often come stuffed with brown craft paper to protect your item. Throughout the year, I save that paper and we use that as stocking stuffer paper and sometimes even regular gift wrapping paper. We add personal touches to the outside of the packages by drawing with markers or crayons.
So, what are your eco-friendly wrapping tips? Please share them in the comments.
These are great ideas, a friend always wraps with homemade dishcloths and tea towels when possible.
I have wrapped presents in new dish clothes, T shirts and stuff. I also reuse wrapping paper and gift bags. I really like the LCBO bag idea.
I like wrapping gifts in those reusuable shopping bags. you can get one from their fav store or use a plain one. my dad’s b-day gift is in a plain black one under the tree right now with colourful ribbon tying the handles together.
at first I thought you were saying to actually use an LCBO bag for the wrapping and I know a few people who would like just like that! lol
WE used to do alot of this when we were kids. Couldn’t afford the wrap and Safeway always used paper bags so it worked out well! Great post!
Great ideas and fun to decorate with the boys!
Great ideas, I love getting brown paper packages tied with a bow!
February 1-My Eco gift wrapping is to save tissue paper(I actually iron it), also any paper that is too beautiful to throw out, and all salvagable bows and ribbon, I have been doing this for a time now and I usually have lots of tissue paper I can use for other gift giveing.
