TD Summer Reading Club for Kids #YMCKidsRead

LITERACY IS SO IMPORTANT! This post is part of YummyMummyClub.ca’s support of the TD Summer Reading Club program and other TD Children’s Literacy initiatives. From the time I found out I was pregnant, one of the very first things that I made sure to do was to read to my babies! My husband and I chose one favourite book, Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney and we read it to my tummy almost every day. At the time, I was a Kindergarten teacher and children’s literacy was such a passion of mine (it still is!). We have … Continue reading

Little Star Wars Fans: May the 4th Be With You Tomorrow! {Free #Printables for Preschoolers}

I will admit that until I met my hubby, I didn’t know a whole lot about Star Wars, but now, I am happy to share that I have seen all of the movies, played with the toys and read a few books. I had no idea about May 4th until last year, I really wasn’t involved in the Star Wars “world” too much other than when hubby would ask if I wanted to watch one of the movies with him or if my son asked me to play with his Star Wars figures. The Star Wars Community is hard core! … Continue reading

Help Kids Through Books: Wilma Jean the Worry Machine by @JuliaCookOnline

As a former Kindergarten teacher and childrens’ literacy advocate, I am a true believer that books can influence and help children! Childrens’ books can be entertaining and educational but they can also be helpful. Not only is the content of a book important, but when a parent and child sit down together to share a book, some magical things can happen! Bonds can grow stronger through literature and teachable moments can occur rather easily. Books can help guide parents to assist their children when they are struggling with a specific problem. Today, the problem that I would like to focus … Continue reading

Beat the Flu with a Flu Shot!

Did you know that if you live in Ontario, you can receive free flu immunization at doctors’ offices, participating pharmacies as well as public health and other community flu clinics throughout the province. This year, my children and I received a flu shot. I am really hoping that it helps us to not be as sick as we have since my daughter started Junior Kindergarten! She seems to bring home every single germ that exists in her school and shares them all with us! I am also hoping that this will decrease the risk of my kids’ grandparents getting sick … Continue reading

Scholastic is sure to have a book for every child on your list this year! I know that they have so many wonderful Christmas books available this year, I just don’t know which ones to choose to give to my children! I started a family tradition when my daughter was born to give the kids a gift on Christmas Eve. It helps to take the edge off and it makes Christmas Eve full of tradition for our family. The gifts always include a book that we read to them at bedtime. I love snuggling up with my children and reading … Continue reading
